THE POSITION: Freedom Center for Wildlife seeks a highly motivated, energetic individual to fill full-time internship positions in wildlife rehabilitation and environmental education.
This position reports to the Center Director and will involve handling live animals, administering medications and general medical care, rehabilitation, cleaning cages and enclosures, as well as outreach educational programs and other duties as assigned by Director. Program areas may include: environmental education, general science, rudimentary physical science and biology, vet tech and basic skills. Interns will be asked to cover all shifts and have maximum availability.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Full or part-time student enrolled in a college or university with major course work in education recreational administration, environmental education, wildlife biology or zoology, or a closely related field. Recreation and/or environmental program coordination experience a plus. Experience in environmental education and exotic/wildlife animal care is highly desirable. This position requires public contact and interaction with participants; therefore, excellent oral communication and interpersonal skills are essential as well as a distinct teaching style and proficient classroom environment skills. The successful candidate will possess the ability to lead a diverse work group to accomplish common goals with new and innovative processes. The candidate must also have a great sense of humor.
SPECIAL LICENSE: Possession of or an ability to obtain a valid New Jersey driver’s license required. Proof of current tetanus vaccine required. Rabies pre-exposure vaccinations will be required.
WORKING CONDITIONS: Background check will be required. Pre-employment physical examinations may be required. Must be able to work outside and in a variety of weather conditions with exposure to the elements. Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs. and stand for long periods. Center is located in Cinnaminson,NJ.
